The African Union, in collaboration with the government of the Republic of South Africa, hosted the 3rd Continental Conference of African Experts on Landmines, which was held in Pretoria from 9 to 11 September 2009. The Conference was financially supported by the European Union through the European Union’s Joint Action, a project aiming at enhancing the universalisation and implementation of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention. The 3rd Continental Conference was the fourth of up to 5 regional meetings that are organized in advance of the Second Review Conference of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
